Krakow city center

Krakow, one of the few cities in Poland where history was not destroyed during the WWII. //

As usually our 1st day in new city is always trough city center. //
Prvá návšetva nového mesta pre nás väčšinou začína v centre.

St.Mary's Church, it always amazes me when I try to imagine how such building was built in 13-14th century. 80m tall! //
Kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie, som vždy v úžase keď si skúšam prestaviť ako takúto budovu postavili v 13.-14. storočí. 80m vysoká!

Wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss, took ~12y to finish this. During the outbreak of WWII Poles dismantled it and hidden across country, but the pieces were found by Nazis and stolen. After the war it was found in the basement of Nuremberg Castle, returned back to Poland and restored. //

You can see how are the stone floors slowly grinned off by everyone walking across. After hundreds of years the harder part of the stone are visible, looks like stones under the plastic tiling. //

We walked around from the 'paid' visitor section, to the 'public' part. There are two entries. // Katedrála ma dva vchody, a my sme okolo prešli, z platenej, do verejne časti katedráli.

The "Rynek Glowny" is full of actions, this day saw hip-hop and pillow fight.

Shopping in the "Sukiennice" (Cloth Hall). // Nakupovanie v "Sukiennice" (Trhovisko).

St. Mary's Church // Kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie

Corner of Cloth Hall, with Town Hall Tower in background. Tower is ~70m tall and leaning 55cm due to storm in 18th century. And yes, you can walk up there, as we did. // Roh Sukiennice a veža radnice v pozadí. Veža je ~70m vysoká a nahnutá 55cm kvôli búrke v 18.storočí.

Entry to St.Mary's Church / Vchod do Kostola Nanebovzatia Panny Márie

Tower clock internals, out of order. // Vnútornosti vežových hodín, nešli.

Pair of lion statues guards the entry to the tower. // Vchod do veže stráži pár kamenných levov.

After the ascent we got hugry and walked to nearby resto, recommended by friends. It's name is RedEd. // Po výstupe nám vyhladlo, a tak sme prešli do blízkej reštiky, čo nám odporučili kamoši. Volá sa RedEd.

Afterwards we walk around a bit from north part of old town.

In the painters corner we investigate how they can paint so nice. //

This was the most interesting object for him. //
Toto bol pre neho ten najzujímavejší objekt.

We walked back to the main square to visit the underground museum. The entry is from the outside of Cloth House, across the square from St. Mary's Church. It's not marked very well, we were standing outside of the entry and asked for direction, but be sure to include this in your travel plans. It's worth it.

Museum guide was calling all polish speaking kids for watching the tale. Slovak is close so we did go, and what a nice show. It's a tale about old ruler Krak who killed dragon and saved the town. To honor him the town was named Krakow. During our visit I heard multiple variations of this story, so it's interesting to ask for more versions.
What is interesting is the way how the play is screened, as combination of mechanical puppets and projectors, well done.

Those models were great, almost like opening captions to Game of Thrones. // Tieto modely sú super, skoro ako úvod ku Game of Thrones.

Need some rest, this day was long. // Ideme odpočívať, dnes bol dlhý deň.
